Tutorial for Memory Glass & Frames

Hi Everyone,  I thought I'd do a tutorial about the Memory Glass pieces I used on my "SteamPunk Butterfly" Reverse Canvas.  These are so fun to work with!

Here's a photo of the items you'll need for this project:

Step 1:  Use some Embossing Ink on your stamp and place it where you want it on the piece of glass.  Then use some Embossing Powder and use a heat tool to set it.

Step 2:  After the stamping is dry I decided to give it a more grungy and aged look so I misted it with some Smooch (Orange).

Step 3:  After letting the mist dry I also dapped some Tim Holtz Distress Stain (Vintage Photo) to complete a more aged look to the glass.

Step 4:  After the glass is completely dry it's time to put the glass into the frame and tape the frame.  I used the 1/4" tape.

Step 5:  After taping the foil around the frame I used some Tim Holtz Alcohol Inks to color the foil.  I used a cotton pad on my ink applicator and inked it with a few drops of each color and then dapped the foil with the pad.  I did this several times, letting it dry between applications.

You can also use a small photo, dye cut, or whatever you'd like.  I used a small die cut from Graphic 45.

Thanks for taking a peek, this is really a fun embelishment to work with because they're so small that you can add them to a page with ease!!

SteamPunk Butterfly ~~Graphic 45~~

Hi Everyone,  So I had to get my SteamPunk fix and decided to do another reverse canvas.  I used lots of texture and techniques for this one and had lots of fun creating a couple of Memory Glass items for the canvas.  I have a tutorial posted at Scraps of Darkness,  and will be posting it here this afternoon.  There are some close-ups and details below about the steps I took for the frame and chipboard.  This is an image by Coleria called "Caribbean Steam @ Steampunk Deviant Art.  Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you enjoy!!!

Close-ups and techniques For SteamPunk Butterfly

Here's a few photos, sorry about the quality.  I first started by using Gesso really heavy on the reverse side of the canvas.  I then took a sponge and dapped for some texture.  After drying I misted the frame and let that dry.  Then I used some Tim Holtz Distress Ink (Gathered Twigs) to ink some more brown where I wanted.  For the Dusty Attic corner flourishes I used some Distress Embossing Ink and then adhered some Mica chips.  For the grungeboard flowers I first applied some Tim Holtz Distress Paint (Antiqued Bronze) and then applied some Shimmerz Paint (Sparklious) and put the heat gun to it.  I also used that process on the small Dusty Attic corner pieces.  I have a tutorial posted about the Memory Glass piece on the forum at Scraps of Darkness .  TFL!!

Coming Home

Hi Everyone,   I thought I'd take a little break from Halloween and do a layout for my niece Marci in Afghanistan.  This is a photo of her (in the middle holding the Flag) and her truck crew after their LAST MISSION!!!  She and her hubby will be home before Thanksgiving!!  Our family couldn't be prouder or happier that she's coming home!!!  I used the Bo Bunny Liberty Collection for this.  The Dusty Attic Skelton Clock Face was altered.  I first painted it with white Gesso and then I used a script stamp in blue to match the script in the Constitution paper in the background!!  Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy!!!

Love Potion #9 ~~Scraps of Darkness~~

This is some more DT work for Scraps of Darkness using our spooky Halloween kit "All Hallows Eve"!!  This kit is so versatile, so many ways to create with it!!  This is an image from an artist at Creative Souls that I thought went perfect with the Moxxie "Midnight Dreary" potion papers in the kit!!I I used lots of TH Holiday Distress Inks and Stains.  I did a lot of fussy cutting with the potion bottles.  The webs I used are from the Halloween cartridge on my Cricut along with the dripping candle on the tag!!  Thanks for looking and I hope you enjoy!!!

Elias In The Orchard ~~Scraps of Darkness~~

Good Morning, This is reveal day for our October kit "All Hallows Eve" here at Scraps of Darkness.  This is a fun kit full of beautiful Halloween papers and goodies!!  This is a layout of my take on this month's sketch by our talented Suepup with a photo of my youngest grandson Elias last year while playing in our orchard.  He was so sick, poor little guy!!  I loved using the Dusty Attic "Clock Skelton Face" again and the chipboard tree from Scrapmats that comes with the kit.  For the Dusty Attic fence I used some of the Shimmerz Paint Enamelz "Molton Metal and some Glimmer Mist.  I just love the colors and hues of the papers in the kit this month!!!!  Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy!!!

Carving Pumpkins ~~Scraps of Darkness~~

This is some Design Team work using our October kit "All Hallows Eve" for Scraps of Darkness.  This is a couple of photos of my grandsons Ethan and Elias last weekend carving some pumpkins with me.  They live a couple hours away so we miss Halloween with them, we had a fun weekend carving pumpkins and going on walks in the Redwoods!!  I had something set wrong on my camera and was so bummed when I saw the photos from the weekend, so I altered them with the antique setting.  I was pleasantly surprised that they looked great with the papers in this month's kit!!!  I did  a lot of punching on this and inked all the edges.  I printed out some small photos of the boys and mounted them on some mini canvases.  The cool Halloween screen doors that come with the Romance Add-on were altered with some Tim Holtz Distress Paint (Antiqued Bronze and Shappy Shutters) along with some Ingrid Bolm Black Coal Ink and some Smooch spritz (Olive Green).  I also used some Tim Holtz Salvage stickers "Seasonal". So much fun to be doing some holiday layouts, love my holidays!!  Thanks so much for dropping by and I hope you enjoy!!!

The King Girls ~~Scraps of Darkness~~

Hi Everybody,  Today is our reveal day for our October kit "All Hallows Eve" here at Scraps of Darkness .  What a fun kit this has been.  It's full of awesome Halloween papers and some fun technique goodies!!  This is a photo of my friends 2 daughters.  I decided to make it full of flowers and the beautiful Prima "Splendor Rust" leaves in the kit.  The corner chipboard is from Unique and I inked it with Tim Holtz's Seasonal Ink (Ripe Persimmon), then embossed it with the new Shimmerz Paints "Enamelz" (Sparklcious) and topped it off with some Smooch Grape Soda and  Pumpkin to accent it a little!! I also used the Prima Mask "Brick Wall" on the purple background paper using the TH seasonal (Seedless Preserves, this color is to die for).   Hope you enjoy and thanks SO MUCH for stopping by!!!

The Boys ~~Scraps of Darkness~~

Good Morning,  This is some Design Team work for reveal day of our new October kit "All Hallows Eve" here at Scraps of Darkness.  I'm having a lot of fun with this gorgeous Halloween themed kit!!  This is a layout of my grandsons, Ethan and Elias.  We had them for the weekend and carved pumpkins and had so much fun!!  I was so bummed, because none of the photos I took turned out good, so for these lo/s I used the antique setting to alter the photos!!  I actually love how they complimented the papers!!  I loved using the Pink Paislee Clear "Phantom" on this page.  I doubled them on the photos and love the effect, it really shows up well irl!!  I was lucky to get the Tim Holtz "Holiday" Collection of Distress Inks and used the "Gathered Twigs"  and  "Persimmon" to use on the distressed edges.  LOVE the colors!!!!  I also used a Dusty Attic Skeleton Clock Face  that I altered with some Glimmer Mists and then embossed with the new Shimmerz Paints Enamelz  "Moulton Metal that's in the color add on this month.  Thanks so much for stopping by and I really hope you enjoy!!!!

The Birds ~~Scraps of Darkness~~

Good Morning Friends!  This is my last lo using our September kit from Scraps of Darkness called "Passages".  This is also for a challenge Mandy has going on.  It is Halloween Horror Movie contest that you can win $50 to spend in the Scraps of Darkness store!!   You can  scrap a poster or photo of your favorite horror film!!!  I love Alfred Hitchcock flicks and The Birds was always one of my favs!!  I layered and inked the edges with Mixed Media (Leather  and Black) and used some Tattered Angels Chalkboard Mist (Mint Chocolate) around the page once my layers were done.  I then used one of Tim Holtz's Masks for the clock.  The brick wall mask is from Prima and was in our kit.  The bird  and film strip stamp that I used is an old TH stamp I've had forever.  Well, that's it for this kit, I can't wait to start on our October kit!!  I hope you enjoy, and thanks so much for dropping by!!!!
