A Journey Into The Forest ~~Scraps Of Darkness~~

This is some more DT work for Scraps of Darkness.  The name of the kit is "Passages".  Mel hit it out of the ballpark again!!  This kit consists of the Bo Bunny "Et Cetera" Line and Teresa Collins "Traveler" line of papers.  They're beautiful!!  This is a photo of my hubby Jack with our youngest grandson Elias walking in the grove last weekend, so fun!!  I altered the photo in photoshop to give it an aged look.  I wanted to keep this one simple as it's for my hubby, so I (of course) did a lot of inking and layering along with some stamping and rub-ons!!  For the Prima chipboard swirlys  I painted them with Gesso and then added some black brush strokes around the edges to match the Tim Holtz  Plaquettes pieces.  For the metal pieces from Graphic 45 I used a tutorial from a couple of their talented team …Jack andCat Curio.  I used some of the Mixed Media Black ink and rubbed it all over the metal and then rubbed some off.  Gives it a whole different look!!  I really love how this one turned out!!  Thanks for dropping by and I hope you enjoy!!

The Tree ~~Scraps of Darkness~~

This is some Design Team work using our new September "Passages" kit here at Scraps Of Darkness!!  It's a fun kit full of Bo Bunny's "Et Cetera" Line and some beautiful Teresa Collins "World Traveler" Line papers.  This layout is my take on our Sketch Challenge using our talented "Suepups" wonderful sketch.  The photos are of my 2 youngest dgs, Ethan and Elias on our walk in the grove last weekend.  I titled it "The Tree" because it was an old redwood that had been burnt in the bottom and the kids always walk in it and play around, soooo…we thought they'd love it.  Right when I snapped this photo I said "Why don't you guys go inside", will Ethan (on the left) just stopped in his tracks and was not about to go in there, and his face shows it, lol!!  But Elias (2) went right in!!

I started with a Bo Bunny paper and the layered some red cardstock and inked it with some Mixed Media (Leather) that came with the color add-on for the kit.  On the third layer I used the fun Prima "Brick Wall" Mask and used some Mixed Media (Black), also in the kit and add-ons.  The buttons are also from Prima and perfect for a little guys layout!!  In the upper right I used a method I learned from Natasha.  What you do is take a wet q-tip and rub it back and forth until the paper rips apart.  Then I inked it and used some islets to secure the pieces together.  I did add a little to much black ink, but it was my first try, lol!!  Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy!!

A Tutorial for my Tim Holtz Configuration Box

Okay, so here we go, I began by taping the boxes, each one individually  and then I watched Tim Holtz's video on YouTube #2 about it and learned a method that saves on tape.  After taping all the seams both vertically and horizontally with the Tissue Tape, I then took some Tim Holtz Distress Ink (Rusty Hinge) and inked areas I wanted to age.  After taping the entire box and inking I coated everything with Martha Stewart Decoupage Glue and Sealer, which really aged it even more!!  You can ink or mist as much as you want,  just play around and have fun with it!!

Step 2 ~~Distressing & Agin the Tissue Tape~~

For this step I decided to do some more inking for an even more aged feel to the tissue tape.  After the decoupage had dried I applied several Tim Holtz Distress Inks (Frayed Burlap, Pumpkin Pie, & Vintage Photo) here and there and it looks really great irl!!  I also used a vine stamp using (Ranger Adorandak Pesto Ink)  that I have to run down the sides and top of the configuration box.

Step 3 ~~Altered Glass Bottles!!

I had some of the Tim Holtz small vials and had seen online that you can alter glass with Alcohol Inks!!  I thought that was really great and decided to do so to the vials.  I used 3 different alcohol inks:  Butterscotch, Latte, & Ginger.  I used a TH applicator with the cotton pads.  I added several drops of each color to the pad and stared dabbing on the glass.  Let dry, and you have an aged looked to them!!!  An added note, the small safety pins & jingle bells in the bottles are from a great site that I ordered some seasonal projects from, you should take a peek.  The way to age and distress things like that are in their "Grungy Recipes" section.  You can find their site at The Old Glory Company!!

Step 4 - Altering the Feet

For the Tim Holtz feet, I chose to alter them.  I first painted on some Gesso and then misted them with some Glimmer Mist (Pumpkin Pie & Olive Vine).  I then dried that and kept adding mists until I got the finish I wanted, dabbing some excess with a paper towel.  Be sure to dry these completely.

Step 5 Adhering The Feet

Now it's time to adhere your feet, if you wish to have them.  I used the large dots, put I think I will try another method and will keep you posted!!

Step 6 Add Your Display Items

Now it's time to add all those goodies on to the shelves!  I've used some large dots and am trying some crazy glue to adhere some things, I'll let you know how that works!!  Have fun with it and I hope you enjoy!!

A Walk In The Grove ~~Scraps of Darkness~~

This is my last post of Design Team work using our August Kit "Envy" here at Scraps of Darkness.  I think I've used every bit of that kit, it was so fun and a beautiful kit to use!!  This is a photo of my husband Jack with our youngest grandson, Elias on a walk in the grove this last weekend.  My oldest grandson Kenneth has been on my walk in the grove with me before but this was Ethan and Elias's 1st time down in the grove and they just thought it was magical!!!  I'll always have those magic memories of my grandsons in the Redwoods with me!  This I wanted really earthy and rustic, I could feel fall in the air and wanted to really give this the feel of the forest in fall.  Again, I used lots of inks and layering and I also included some moss and some twigs of grapevines from last year that I had dried.  Thanks for stopping by and I really hope you enjoy this!!
